Sounds in Town
We could go hang out of a window on our hotel floor hallway, or go down a flight to the breakfast room balcony & watch & hear alllll the sounds of the neighborhood, & there were many at various times. It turns out that in our niche of town, several shops have loudspeakers from which they turn on (pretty loud) music, but it's all a part of learning about the local culture. Friday night it was down at the corner till past 11 because I fell asleep with it.
Then there were the drums, but you didn't know where the beating cadences were coming from (& live or recorded?) until we saw them. They moved around to various plazas. Fortunately, they were right up the 1st hill as we were coming down on Sat. night.
Then on Sunday morning the windows & doors of the Blue Church were open (next door) & we could hear Catholic mass chanting throughout the service.
A good article on the cultural dress above, left: https://theculturetrip.com/south-america/brazil/articles/an-introduction-to-baiana-de-acaraje-traditional-dress/
Noticing some details as we move along.
